The Problem
A Community on the Edge
Ten years ago, none of these families had reliable income and the community was in abject poverty. Bare survival meant cutting down their own forests, burning charcoal just to get by. They were headed towards complete decimation of the very land they depended on.
This is the pattern TEO has seen across regions where economic desperation and environmental destruction feed each other — and where a single, well-designed intervention can reverse both at once.
TEO's goal was not to provide an unsustainable, quick fix. Instead, they worked to help the community cultivate a long-term solution built on regenerative agriculture and genuine economic ownership.
The Approach
Building Real Ownership, Not Dependency
TEO trained farmers on regenerative agriculture and donated 100,000 coffee plant seedlings. Season by season, through TEO's Ugandan Chapter in coordination with international headquarters in South Africa, they built a farming cooperative of 500 farmers — which then extended to an additional 4,500 regional farmers.
The results have been remarkable: successful coffee farms, children attending school, new homes being built, and a seasonally expanding harvest. Last year alone, this community produced over 42,000 tons of coffee.
Despite that progress, farmers had been forced to sell their harvest to outside traveling buyers at the lowest possible prices — restricting the full potential of their own work. That is about to change.

The cooperative has just secured a partnership that would allow them to export one full shipping container of coffee every month, at prices significantly higher than what outside buyers have offered. This is the step that turns years of effort into real economic stability.
This will support families, provide access to higher education for children, improve more homes, and allow local forests to continue to regenerate. The annual profits from this one contract will move the cooperative up to an entirely different level of operation.
